Permanent hair reduction with pulsed light

The old hair removal “solutions”
If you have to live with constant discomfort caused by unwanted hair, you are most likely to have tried some of the typical hair removal know their disadvantages.

  • Shaving is almost a daily nuisance.
  • Waxing is painful and does not last long.
  • Electrolysis is usually effective but is also painful and not practical since it only treats one hair follicle at a time.

The alternative solution to hair reduction: pulsed light

  • Lasting solution for unwanted hair by Palomar pulsed light system
  • Permanent: concentrated pulses of light weaken the hair and disable the cells responsible for the growth of new hair.
  • Fast: Small areas, such as the armpits or upper lip, can be treated in less than 10 minutes. Larger areas, such as the back or legs may be treated in less than one hour.
  • Comfortable: Various cooling methods allow for well tolerated pulsed light treatments. The skin's safety is ensured, and the overall experience is comfortable compared to waxing, electrolysis or other laser applications.
  • Convenient: As opposed to waxing, there is no need to let hair grow between sessions. You shall always be free of unwanted hair.
  • Effective: None of the other methods may guarantee full and long-lasting reduction of unwanted hair even if the scheduled sessions are completed.

How does the Palomar intense pulsed light system function?

The Palomar intense pulsed light system uses specialised handpieces that filter light from different parts of the light spectrum. Different treatments, such as hair reduction, sunspot removal or spider veins clearance require light of different wavelength bands. The Palomar hair removal handpieces emit pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

How does Palomar pulsed light system differ from a Laser therapy?

Pulsed light systems and Lasers are similar, but Palomar system uses a much larger handpiece crystal compared to other Lasers. Light is intensely spread over a wider area of the skin and allows quicker and wider coverage of the skin and, as a result, faster and better treatment outcome.

Which body areas can be treated?

Any area, except around the eyes is treatable such as the upper lip, face, neck, armpits, bikini line, tummy, chest, back and legs.

How are treatments with Palomar system performed?

Specially trained personnel will move the handpiece over your skin, continuously pulsing light. Each pulse will send a light beam onto your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone and a mild sensation of heat on your skin will let you understand when the handpiece is being pulsed.

What should I expect after treatment?

  • Straight after treatment, you may experience a mild sunburn sensation, quite possibly followed by minor oedema. This usually lasts 2- 4 hours. You might want to sooth the treated area with some hydrating cream, cold gel or ice packs.
  • You shall continue to see a few hairs on the treated area for about 7-30 days. This is not new hair. It is treated hair that will gradually disappear.
  • Hair growth is not continuous. The phase during which hair is not growing is ideal for treatment. Therefore, you will need more that one session to affect the growth of all unwanted hair.
  • A certain number of treatment sessions will be required to achieve permanent hair reduction. This will vary depending on the area to be treated since hair is stronger in some parts of the body, e.g. on the upper lip. The number of sessions required for various areas are listed below:
  • For the upper lip and chin 6-8 sessions
    For the face 4-6 sessions
For the bikini line 5-7 sessions
For armpits, legs and back 4-6 sessions
